ONE GROUP. ONE STORY.
Electrotrans, Peninsular del Latón and Latones del Carrión make up the Group of Companies founded by Arturo Iglesias, which is now led by the second generation of the family.
The founding in 1917 of the Spanish Electromechanical Construction Company, SA (SECEM), marked the beginning of the copper and its alloys industry in the city of Córdoba. The company’s location was primarily due to Córdoba’s proximity to the mining resources of Huelva and Río Tinto, as well as the energy sources of the Peñarroya power plant in the Sierra Morena mountains.
Since then, a deeply rooted culture of manufacturing semi-finished brass products and transforming them into industrial solutions for the electrical, sanitary, irrigation, gas, automotive, refrigeration and heating sectors has developed in the Andalusian city.
The 1978 merger of SECEM with Pradera Hnos., Sociedad Industrial Asturiana and Earle formed Ibercobre, which came to control more than 70% of the Spanish l market.
In 1989, the Finnish multinational Outokumpu acquired a controlling stake in Ibercobre, dividing the Cordoba plant into three independent companies. The first of these, Outokumpu Copper Brass Rod, specialized in the manufacture of bars and profiles.
In 1994 Arturo Iglesias adquired Outokumpu Copper Brass Rod, the brass rod division of the historic factory, affectionately known to the people of Cordoba as “La Electro”, was renamed Peninsular del Latón. This marked the beginning of an industrial process focused on modernization, production standardization, continuous quality improvement, and increased productivity. Today, Peninsular del laton is recognized as a European leading manufacturer and distributor of brass rods.
In 2000, Electrotrans, a company based in Zaragoza and a regular customer for brass rods, joined the Group. Two years later, in 2002, it relocated its operations to Córdoba.
The Group’s firm commitment to Cordoba culminated in 2006 with the relocation to the Andalusian city of Latones del Carrión, a company specialized in the manufacture and distribution of brass ingots. Since 1998, the company had been operating in Guardo, Palencia, and was already recognized as one of the most modern and competitive companies in the sector at European level.
Today, Peninsular del Latón, together with Latones del Carrión and Electrotrans — a benchmark in the manufacture of turned parts— form the BRASS HUB in Spain.
